Your Instructor
I'm Michelle, and I stopped eating animal products in 2009. The catalyst was Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's Food for Thought podcast. She happened to be in the middle of a series that detailed the lives of animals before they are killed for food. Like many people, I knew what I was about to hear wasn't going to be good by any stretch of the imagination, but I wasn't prepared for the truth. I was so disgusted and horrified that I stopped eating animal flesh immediately and became a vegetarian.
One month later, I recalled the entire series and thought about the lives of the hens and their male babies, and the dairy cows and their male calves. I knew that I needed to stop eating all animal products if I didn't want to contribute to their suffering and death.
In the beginning, I had no idea what to eat. I remember being hungry because I wasn't eating enough calories. Eventually, I read more, experimented, found social support, and figured it all out.
In April 2012, I started making cooking videos on YouTube. My goal was to explore the many options available in a vegan diet. I used my creativity, curiosity, and determination to recreate cruelty-free versions of many of the flavors and textures that I enjoyed growing up. My message was simple - Vegan life is not a life of deprivation, but a life of abundance and joy!
Today, my mission is to empower and teach as many people as possible to prepare plant-based meals for themselves and their families.
